Mavericks Dallas Trade

WEB Dallas send Holmes to Washington in deal for Gafford

Mavs center traded for fellow big man ahead of playoff push

Third deal made by Mavericks front office in recent weeks

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards in a trade that sends center Richaun Holmes and a 2024 first-round pick to the Wizards.

The move comes as the Mavericks look to bolster their frontcourt ahead of the playoffs. Gafford is a young, ascending player who has shown flashes of his potential in Washington. He is a solid rebounder and defender, and he has the ability to score in the paint.

Holmes has been a solid contributor for the Mavericks this season, but he is set to become a free agent this summer. Gafford is under contract for two more seasons, so the Mavericks will have some stability in their frontcourt going forward.

The Mavericks have been active in the trade market in recent weeks, as they have also acquired forward PJ Washington from the Charlotte Hornets and star guard Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. The moves have given the Mavericks a much-needed boost, and they are now considered to be one of the favorites to win the Western Conference.
