Francis Ngannou Defends Heavyweight Title with Unanimous Decision Victory

Lewis Put on Defensive Throughout the Fight, Ngannou Wins Three Rounds

Francis Ngannou has successfully defended his UFC heavyweight title, defeating Derrick Lewis via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC 226. In a rematch of their 2018 bout, Ngannou controlled the fight from start to finish, putting Lewis on the defensive for most of the contest. Despite Lewis's reputation as a knockout artist, Ngannou's superior striking and grappling skills proved too much for his opponent.

The first round started with both fighters exchanging heavy blows, but it was Ngannou who landed the more significant strikes. He connected with a series of hard punches and kicks, forcing Lewis to retreat. As the round progressed, Ngannou took Lewis down and controlled him on the ground, landing several ground-and-pound strikes. Lewis managed to escape, but he was clearly overwhelmed by Ngannou's power and aggression.

The second round followed a similar pattern, with Ngannou dominating the striking exchanges and taking Lewis down at will. Lewis showed some toughness and resilience, but he was unable to mount any significant offense. Ngannou continued to land heavy blows and kicks, chipping away at Lewis's stamina and determination.

In the third and final round, Ngannou continued to press his advantage, while Lewis looked increasingly exhausted. Ngannou landed a series of punches that rocked Lewis, and he nearly finished the fight with a flurry of ground-and-pound strikes. However, Lewis managed to survive and make it to the final bell. Despite his valiant effort, Lewis was outclassed by Ngannou in every aspect of the fight.

With this victory, Ngannou has established himself as one of the most dominant heavyweight fighters in UFC history. He has now won five straight fights, four of which have ended in first-round knockouts. Ngannou's next opponent is likely to be Stipe Miocic, who is the former heavyweight champion. A rematch between these two heavyweights would be one of the most highly anticipated fights of the year.
