UEFA Champions League: Group Stage Tiebreakers
How Group Stage Ties are Broken
In the UEFA Champions League, if two or more teams are level on points after the group stage, the following tiebreakers are applied in order until all group games are:
1. Goal Difference
The team with the greater goal difference in all group matches shall be ranked higher.
2. Goals Scored
The team with the greater number of goals scored in all group matches shall be ranked higher.
3. Head-to-Head Result
The team with the better head-to-head record against the other team(s) involved in the tie shall be ranked higher.
4. Away Goals
The team with the greater number of away goals scored in the group matches played between the teams involved in the tie shall be ranked higher.
5. Fair Play Conduct
The team with the better fair play conduct record in all group matches shall be ranked higher. The following deductions shall be made: * Yellow card: -1 point * Indirect red card (second yellow card): -3 points * Direct red card: -4 points * Yellow card followed by direct red card: -5 points
6. UEFA Club Coefficient
The team with the higher UEFA club coefficient shall be ranked higher.
